In the fourth quarter of 2021, the top 5 communication apps on Android in Ghana exhibited interesting trends in terms of weekly downloads and active users. The data, sourced from Sensor Tower, reveals significant insights into user preferences and app performance in the region.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence in Ghana. Weekly downloads fluctuated, starting at 148K in late September and dipping to a low of around 58K in mid-December before closing the year at approximately 63K. Active users showed a slight decline initially, from 4.2M to 4.1M in October, but rebounded to end the quarter at 4.2M.

Telegram saw notable spikes in downloads, particularly in early October with a peak of 168K. However, downloads tapered off to 38K by the end of December. The app's active user base remained relatively stable, starting at 1.5M and ending the quarter at 1.6M.

WhatsApp Business experienced a surge in weekly downloads, peaking at nearly 180K in early December. Active users increased from 1.6M in late September to 1.9M by early December before slightly declining to 1.8M at the end of the month.

Ayoba chat.games.news.music displayed a steady upward trend in both downloads and active users. Downloads surged from 42K in late September to over 172K by mid-December. Active users also saw significant growth, from 190K in late September to nearly 490K by the end of December.

Snapchat had a mixed quarter. Weekly downloads started at 49K in late September, dropped to a low of 28K in late November, but rebounded strongly to 86K by the end of December. Active users increased from 1.3M in late September to 1.5M by mid-December, before a slight dip to 1.5M by the end of the year.
